Tilia europaea 'Koningslinde', the name ‘Koningslinde’ refers to King (Koning) Willem III who supplied new starting material to growers from the Batavia region, because their stock plants were lost due to floods back in 1870. Synonym is Tilia europaea 'Pallida'.
The Tilia europaea 'Koningslinde' is a big tree with a height of 20-30 m, with wide pyramidal crown and upward inclining branches. Its top is initially pointy, later rounded and blunt but not as rounded as the 'Zwarte Linde'. Auburn twigs. Leaf larger than the leaf of the ‘Zwarte Linde' and lighter green. The bottom is yellowish green, the leaf stalk has a slightly red hue. Windproof tree. Best not to plant on parking lots or parking strips along roads because of its ‘dripping’. Avenue and street tree, preferably on wide green verges or in locations where ‘dripping’ cannot cause any problems.
