On September 10th, after a short illness, Harrie van Iersel (1922-2019), former director and founder of Nursery Udenhout passed away. Harrie van Iersel was born at a mixed farm that also specialised in arboriculture. Directly after the war he directed his attention to cultivation of trees and planting material.

Initially slowly, but after the death of his brother Kees van Iersel (1924-1959), the dairy farm was being phased out fast-tracked. Nursery Udenhout became generally well-known in the seventies and eighties by using the slogan ‘An old name in new poplars’. During that period of time, each year millions of poplars were sold. Later on the focus shifted to the cultivation of large avenue trees and nowadays the nursery is still known for this. At his 65th birthday he passed on the company to his son Kees van Iersel.

Van Iersel was among other things involved in the founding of the Brabantse Populieren Vereniging (Poplar association of the Dutch province North-Brabant). Furthermore, he was on the Board of Directors of the Water Authority and several other social organisations.

We remember him with great respect and wish the family all the strength coping with this loss.
